Baby Yeast Infection Treatment: What Medications Are Safe for a Baby?
If you’ve had a yeast infection in the past, you’ve probably just treated it with an over the counter medication. Yeast infections are easy to treat, and most drugstore medications are extremely inexpensive. Most people don’t think they need to bother with a costly doctor’s visit.
However, these over the counter medications are designed to be used by adults rather than children. Babies and small children have skin that’s far more sensitive that the average adult’s. You shouldn’t use any kind of medication on your baby unless it’s been approved by your doctor.
However, this doesn’t mean that you have to go to the doctor’s office. You may be able to get a treatment recommendation over the phone. Make a phone call to your doctor’s office, tell them your baby has yeast infection symptoms, and ask them if they can call you back.
From there, there are several different courses of action they may take. They might recommend an over the counter treatment that you can buy on your own. They may suggest that you try to treat the yeast infection in a natural way. Or, they may recommend that you bring your child in.
There’s no reason that you should take your baby in to see a doctor without calling first. There may be a safe and inexpensive treatment that you can purchase on your own. However, you also shouldn’t use any product that hasn’t been cleared by a doctor first.
While yeast infections aren’t serious, it’s important to treat them with care. Always call your doctor before you do anything to treat your baby’s yeast infection. When it comes to your child, there’s no such thing as being too safe. You’ll want to take this extra step to protect them.
