If you have started noticing that you have a foul smelling vaginal discharge, you need to have it checked by your OB as soon as possible.

Yeast infection in pregnant women may usually occur during their second trimester. This is because at this stage, hormones are excessively fluctuating, which may cause the woman’s body to change its pH level. When this happens, the vagina may be a breeding ground for yeast bacteria. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t do anything about it. As a matter of fact, many pregnant women experience this and as soon as you have noticed it, it has to be treated to avoid further complications.

Can it be avoided? In general, it can randomly happen to every woman. Some may experience it while some others go through their entire pregnancy without having to worry about yeast infection.

When it happens, what you need to do is to have it checked by your obstetrician. Make sure that you clean your genital area and keep it dry as much as possible. Yeast bacteria multiplies and grows faster in a damp environment. Don’t scratch the area and drink lots of water. Use a mild feminine wash as often as possible to help avoid it as soon as possible.
